Not one duck was in the huge lake swimming, longing or anything! It was if everyone had gone on a vacation. In a huge lake like this, there should be ducks everywhere. At least 750,000 ducks could fit in the lake and that was with room! Lillian silently cheered. She could have fun and not worry about any other animal. Lillian backed up to the edge of the layers of prickly bushes and slowly took her photograph out from under her wing. She looked at it for a second before she laid it down beneath the bush behind her, ensuring that it wouldn’t get wet. Lillian looked around at the lake once again. She peered at the glistening green grass all around the lake, letting the rays of the sun shine off of it. Lillian was ready to have some fun. She ran as fast as she could, letting her feet fly, and as soon as she got to the very dirt packed edge of the lake, Lillian bent her knees and jumped into a huge arch. He neck was straight and her back was arched while her velvety feathers shone brightly in the suns rays. Just as suddenly as Lillian had jumped, her body was submerged in the icy blue water, plummeting deeper and deeper into it’s icy depths. Lillian opened her dazzling blue eyes to see nothing but crystal clear water ahead of her. She could see all the way to the bottom of the lake! To touch the bottom of the lake, Lillian would have to swim for at least 12 more feet. Lillian stopped about a foot away from the floor of the lake and peered all round her. There was beautiful golden fish all around her, swimming in schools. Lillian opened her wings wide and began to float around the huge lake, making sure to hold her breath tight. Air soon grew short and Lillian was forced to go up. She flapped her wings as slowly under the cool water, letting the cool water indulge her even more as she made her way to the surface. Suddenly, Lillian stopped. Above the glassy surface of the lake were huge winged birds flying over the lake. They looked as though they were going to land in the lake, but they kept going on ahead. Lillian swam the rest of the way up to the clear surface and broke through. Tiny water droplets skid down Lillian’s glossy neck and back down into the cool water. Lillian closed her silky eyelids over her dazzling blue eyes and shook her graceful head, spraying water everywhere. Lillian began to ope her eyes when she heard great splashes all around her. Lillian snapped her eyes open and looked around her. She saw at least 20 Mute swans around he. Lillian panicked, but none of the swans seemed to notice her at all. None except, the biggest swan of them all. It was a cob by the looks of it. Big, strong, tall, and it’s black knob on it’s nose was bigger than the rest of the swans around it. The cob was getting closer to Lillian the longer she sat there. She looked around wildly and spotted her photo. It was glinting in the sunlight under the bush. The cob was still coming closer, so Lillian did the only thing that she could thing of. She dived. She shot down like a rocket and soon spread her wings out to give her more leverage. She flapped hard, making her bod move faster through the thick water, going deeper. Lillian got to the lake floor and looked up. She was shocked to see that the cob had followed her and was now only feet away. Lillian didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t think straight. She looked around worriedly, but saw no escape. Lillian’s panic grew more fierce with every second. Just as Lillian was about to give up, her small webbed feet hit something smooth and hard. It was a rock. Something suddenly erupted inside of her. This was just another game of tag. Thought Lillian. She squashed herself down as low as she could into the lake floor, bending her knees to the max and shoved off as hard as she could, frightening the cob. Lillian shot up like a rocket through the clear icy water. Lillian’s wings were flat against her sides and her body was as straight as a board, so Lillian shot through the water effortlessly. After getting over his shock, the cob turned around as swiftly as a shark after his prey. Lillian reached the icy surface only seconds before the cob did. Lillian looked below her to find the cob and was startled to find that the cob was only inches away from the surface. Lillian panicked. There was nowhere to go. The swans around her still didn’t look at her or even seem like they knew what was going on at all. Lillian opened her wings and laid on her stomach as the huge cob emerged. She flapped her wings continuously, propelling herself through the water. Lillian reached the edge of the lake in no time, but so did the strong cab. He was right behind her. Lillian jumped onto land and snatched up her photograph and shoved it under her wing. Lillian then began to run off through the bushes. “Wait!’ the cob called. His voice was strong and firm yet soft and caring. :”I can’t.” I called back as I made sure that my face was covered. She was too ugly to be seen by such a handsome cob and she didn’t want to be embarrassed in front of all them beautiful swans. The cob continued to run after Lillian, but he soon gave up after a while of running after her. Lillian on the other hand, kept on going. She went for miles, not stopping for anything but food, water, or a little rest. For Lillian it seemed like it had been ages since she had rested properly, but she wasn’t going to give in now. She would find th true place where she belonged. Lillian had traveled for 40 days, barley sleeping, when she had come to an old farm. Vegetables of plenty were in every field. There was fresh golden corn, green peas, green beans, lettuce, carrots, radishes, watermelons, tomatoes, cucumbers, and much much more. Lillian walked over to the golden corn and laid down between some fallen stocks of golden corn. She reached out for a corn stock, but she was to weak. After continuously traveling, Lillian had no strength left. Shortly, an old farmer came by to check his wonderful fields of vegetables when he came across Lillian’s fallen form on the ground. She was asleep, but still awake. She could feel the farmer picking her up in his rough and worn hands. “What happened to you little one?” the farmer questioned as he looked over Lillian. She was barely breathing. Lillian couldn’t talk or even move for that matter. She was too weak to do anything. The farmer took her in his arms and to his little cottage that sat up on a huge hill. the old farmer quickly went through the door and sat Lillian on a soft nest by the door. Lillian fell asleep immediately and didn’t wake for many days. Once she woke up, she was well rested and strong once more. Lillian opened her dazzling blue eyes to her new surroundings. A huge grey cat, about the size of one of those huge bouncy balls, was sitting by the nest, staring at Lillian. A little hen was in another nest on the opposite side of the door not far away. The hen appeared to be fast asleep. “Well, look who’s u.” sneered the Taby cat. Lillian was startled at first, but soon recovered.”What? Where am I?”Lillian questioned. “Oh, your at Old Acres Farm.” the fat cat replied. Suddenly, the old farmer came into the room. He was wearing a red and white checkered shirt and some dark blue jeans. “Well, hi there. I see that your all better. Can you lay eggs? I really hope so. It would be a great change from chicken eggs.” the farmer rambled on happily. He turned to leave the room and go into the next room, which was a bright mellow yellow kitchen. “So, what can you do?” Inquired the fat Taby cat. “No, I’m not old enough to lay any eggs yet.” Lillian answered offensively. Well, if you can’t lay eggs and I know that you can’t meow, then the farmer wont want you. Your no use to anyone if you can’t do anything. What kind of duck are you anyway? I’ve seen a lot of ducks and none have come close to looking like you.” the cat questioned. “I don’t know. I’ve always been like this.” Lillian said sadly. “Well, I suggest that you just eat all you can, because that’s all the good you’ll do. The farmer will eat you once your fat enough,” Sniggered the cat. Lillian didn’t reply to the fat cat, but instead, waited for an opportunity to escape. She had no intentions of being eaten. The farmer never left any opening to outside for fear of someone escaping. Not to mention that the farmer was already giving her more food than she needed. Lillian tried not to eat to much of the sardines and stuff, but all the food was fattening. Then one day the farmer was being careless. He had a huge bag of feed in his hands and he couldn’t shut the huge wooden door once he got outside. “I’ll just come back and shut it after I drop this off in the barn.” The farmer mumbled to himself, but that’s where ha mad his mistake. Lillian took this chance and as soon as the old farmer was out of site, Lillian ran for it. She went through the huge willow doorway, through the fields of vegetables, and out of site from the little cottage. Lillian stopped at the edge of the land. In front of her lay a dark wooded forest. Lillian slowly went into the shadowed forest only to find herself near a small lake that a flock of mallards had just landed in. “Did you hear Layia? The prince is having a Great Ball! Every available girl is able to come, but it wont be until spring because of the cold weather that’s setting in.” A mallard exclaimed to her friend Layia. Lillian’s eyes widened. There was a ball! She had never went to a great ball before, but it would be awesome to go to one. the only problem was that she had no idea what so ever where it was located at. The mallards chatted on about their personal life and Lillian suddenly noticed that it was getting colder as the short day wore on. Winter had come and by night it would be below freezing level. The mallards had flown off long before night, but Lillian couldn’t fly. Night began to fall quickly. The temperature was dropping fast and the pond was freezing over. The ground was getting ice cold as chinning frost began to set in. Lillian crawled over to a huge bush that practically reached the ground and cuddled up beneath it’s prickly branches. She rolled up into a little ball trying to conserve body heat to keep warm. Morning soon came and the land outside of the bush was pretty much frozen, including the bush itself. Lillian was practically frozen beneath the bushes icy branches. He wings were as stiff as cardboard and her bones were frozen in spot. Footsteps erupted close by. They were soft and slow upon the icy ground. They were like a cats footsteps when prowling around an area, but they were bigger. The footsteps got closer with every step and soon, as Lillian opened her stiff eyelids to pear around, she saw that the footsteps had stopped. They were right in front of the very bush that she was beneath. Suddenly, something solid hit the icy ground with a TING. A human hand reached down to retrieve the object, but the object rolled under her bush and just missed her head by centimeters. The human hand reached further under the frozen bush to grab the object, but instead of grabbing the round, silver, circular object, the hand grabbed Lillian. Lillian was too frozen to struggle away from the grasping hand. The circular object lay forgotten beneath the bush as the grasping hands held Lillian close to their body. The hands held her carefully as though she were the most fragile piece of glass. The footsteps began again, but this time they were going the opposite way and much quicker. I tried to look where we were going, but it was no use. Everything was going in and out of focus. Then I couldn’t see anything but cloudiness. I had went bleary eyed, so I just shut my eyes and let myself fall into a deep sleep. Lillian dreamed for a long time. She dreamed about everything and about nothing. He one day, Lillian awoke slowly. Her eyes opened and she tried to blink the sleep out of her weary eyes. She raised her graceful head to look around her new surroundings. Two little kids, about the age of 6, were playing with small little toys like dolls and trucks. There was a girl and a boy. The girl had long wavy hair that reached about mid-back for her. It looked like spun gold under the light in the room. She was wearing a little, blood red jumper and sparkling shoes. Her face was kind and soft looking. The boy was a few inches taller than the girl and he had striking black hair that was as black at charcoal. His face was soft-looking, but it looked a little mischievous rather than kind. He was wearing a shit as green as the sparkling grass in the summer and jean that were as blue as the icy depths of the Atlantic ocean. An older woman was sitting in a small rocking chair, rocking back and forth as she watched the two children on the ground play. She had long, straight brown hair the was down to her shoulder. She was wearing a pair of tight blue jeans and a lavender t-shirt that said ‘Who were you talking to? I wasn’t listening’. Suddenly, Lillian heard footsteps. She spun her heard around to look at the source. It was a Blond guy that had just walked in from another room. He was wearing a tight black muscle shirt and blue jeans. The footsteps stopped and Lillian looked over to the other people in the room. They were all staring at her. Lillian, worried that they were looking at her ugly face, bent he head down and covered it up with her wing. The footsteps continued and they were getting closer. Then came the hurried footsteps of the children. The began to touch and pull on Lillian and she didn’t like it. She opened her wings and flew up over their heads. The children screamed as Lillian landed in a bowl of water, splashing it everywhere. The mother screamed and began to hit at Lillian. She flew out of the water and into a tub of yellow butter that was sitting on the tall, wooden dining room table. The father went to grab Lillian, but she was too fast. She flew up into the air and out an open window. She was greeted with the warm air of the spring morning. Up ahead, Lillian spotted a lake. She waited until she was right about the lake, and slowly closed her wings, lading softly on the lakes surface. The Lillian suddenly remembered her picture under her wing. She hurriedly swam to the edge of the lake and got out, dripping with tiny water droplets. Lillian smiled, she hadn’t felt the cooling sensation of cool water on her feathers in months. Lillian walked over to a huge tree and laid the photograph at it’s trunk. It was at least 4 feet away fr4om the lake. After Lillian made sure that the photo was safe, she turned towards the lake and gave a giant leap into the air, opening her giant wings. She straightened her back and flew towards the lake, bending her body into an arch as she got closer to the surface. When she was about a foot away from the surface, she folded her wings and plunged into the lake. Lillian had grown over the winter. She was huge now. Lillian was rocketing towards the bottom of the lake, not stopping until she reached the muddy bottom. Very few rocks covered the lake bottom. Fish of all kinds swan around the bottom of the lake. There were albino catfish, ash grey catfish, glowing silver bass, rainbow perch, trout, big moth bass, and so many more fish. It was like a rainbow of colors under the sea. Lillian looked around her. This lake wasn’t as clear as the bigger one she had seen, but it was still pretty clean. Lillian could only see 3 feet ahead of her, but that 3 feet was magnificent. Glittering stones every now and then shone in the sunlight that past through the thick water layers. Huge, rocks that looked as though they were made of sparkling gold spotted the muddy floor. Lillian laid on the muddy lake floor just admiring the wonderful patterns that the water made of the suns rays. Lillian’s air supply was once again running low, so she stood up, opened her huge wings and flapped them in the water, pushing herself to the surface. She went by scared fish and swimming turtles the size of boulders. With every swish of her wings, Lillian got closer to the bright surface. She was only inches away from the surface when she was finally out of air. She swished her wings one more time and broke through the glassy layer of water over the surface. The quiet twittering of birds sounded around her. Lillian opened her watery eyes and saw to lovely mallards talking to each other only feet away. She took a deep breath and plunged back under the water. Once under the water, Lillian swan over to where she was only a foot away from them. “-prince is going to be there! It’s tonight at sunset in the huge lake. You know that he’ll pick me, but I guess everyone has to come so that there’ll be a little competition.” on mallard sniggered. “Whatever! He’ll want me not you.” the other mallard laughed. Lillian sunk back into the water smiling. She had totally forgotten about the great ball. Lillian waited for the two mallards to leave. She didn’t have to wait very long. They left only minutes later. Lillian wasn’t watching though and she missed them. She started to get worried. She wanted to go to the lake, but she had no idea how to get there. Teas fell from her eyes and she swam slowly over to the edge of the lake, not noticing a thing around her. “Is everything alright dear?” a motherly voice said. Lillian stopped sobbing, but tears still fell. She looked up to see a beautiful swan standing in front of her with a sort of bluish tint to her feathers. “Who are you?” she asked hesitantly. “I am your fairy godmother.” The lovely swan replied. Lillian was stunned. “I have a-a-a fairy godmother?” Lillian inquired.
