“Yes dear, now what is this dilemma you seem to be having?” The fairy godmother questioned as she laid a beautiful white wing on her shoulder. “I-I-I-I want to go to a great ball that the prince is having, but I don’t know how to get there, and I look horribly.” Lillian sobbed. ‘Oh, now now child. I can fix all that. Stand up.” she told Lillian as she pointed a small blue wand toward her. Lillian obediently stood up. “Turn around.” the fairy god mother informed and Lillian did so. “No, what was that incantation? Ah, yes. Swimmity, Slimmity, Slam.” the fairy godmother replied to her own question as blue sparks flew out of her skinny wand and around Lillian. Lillian felt a cool sensation drip down her back and she felt alive. “Yes, yes. Now that’s beautiful.” the fairy godmother whispered to herself about 5 minutes later when the dripping sensation had stopped. Lillian opened her eyes and felt beautiful. She could trust her fairy godmother to tell her the truth. She did look beautiful. “Now, about getting there. Yes, that will work perfectly.” she said to herself after thinking it over for about 10 minutes. She pointed her wand at me once more and said “Swimmity, Slimmity, Slam” once more. “Ok child, I have just given you a direct path spell. It will guide you directly towards the great lake. Now, I must warn you that the enhancing beauty spell that I have put on you will wear off at 12 o’clock, so get away before then, alright?” the fairy godmother informed. “Yes fairy godmother” Lillian replied. “Ok then, go on. You must hurry. It’s almost sunset!” the fairy godmother rushed. Lillian rushed over and grabbed her picture and flew up into the skies. The straight direction spell worked right away. Lillian didn’t even have t do anything. She just flapped her wings every once in a while. Lillian reached the location in no time. The sun was setting fast and already hundreds of ducks and swans were in the great pond and the Ball had already started. Lillian hurriedly landed into the middle of the lake, startling everyone. They all stopped chattering and the music stopped abruptly. Every eye was on Lillian. Lillian looked away as small pink spots appeared on her cheeks. She was blushing with embarrassment. Suddenly, the swans that were in a group started to depart, making a straight path between them. Lillian looked up only to be shocked. There, coming through the path was the same cob that had run after her the last time she was here. He was still just as big as he was before. Lillian hid behind two swans while he came forward, but he didn’t turn away. He kept coming forward. The two swans in front of Lillian were getting excited because they thought that the prince was coming toward them, but he ordered them to move. The sadly moved away and he came closer still. “Hello” he welcomed. “Hi” Lillian replied slowly. “So, would you like to dance?” he questioned. There was a hint of mischief in his brilliant green eyes. Lillian thought for a moment. If this was just another game she would be heartbroken, but if it wasn’t.... “ok.” Lillian answered. She would just have to risk it. The prince bowed he long graceful head down to the water and Lillian did the same. Then he held his wing out and Lillian took his wing in hers. They started to gracefully dance across the water. Their brilliant feathers glistened in the setting sun. Lillian felt like she was floating on clouds as she danced with the prince. It was as if they were one. Other swans and ducks stared enviously at Lillian as she danced with the prince, but she didn’t care. It felt like she had finally found the place where she belonged. Soon, the other ducks and swans began to dance with other males that had showed up and everyone was distracted. It was like the prince had been waiting for this moment. He stopped dancing abruptly and pulled Lillian over to the edge of the lake where trees that grew out of the water shaded that area. “What-“ Lillian started, but the prince shushed her. “I just wanted to talk to you away from the crowd.” he spoke softly. Lillian stared the opposite way. This was the most beautiful place at the lake during sunset. This all had to be a joke. No one would actually like someone like her. “I like you Lillian. Your not like the other girls. You aren’t rushing to meet me or anything.” the prince complimented. “I-“ Lillian started, but suddenly there was a loud noise in her ear. The prince didn’t seem to have heard it. It was time to go. It was 12. The spell would be wearing off any second now. “I’m sorry, but I have to go. I’m really sorry.” Lillian rushed as she pulled away from the prince. “Wait-“ he tried to say as he tried to hold onto Lillian’s wing. Lillian snatched it away from him, but something fell into the water. Lillian tried to look back at what it was, but she was running out of time. She could already feel the dripping sensation rolling off her wings and into the lake water. Lillian continued to run into the dark trees. She had never been in the forest at night. She soon lost her way. Hooting owls and the shouts of the prince filled the spooky air. Lillian was scared and tired. She slowly walked over to a hollow tree and laid down inside it, folding her wings gently. Lillian almost fell asleep immediately. Morning came before Lillian knew it and there was bustling all around. Lillian looked out of the hollow tree only to see swans walking around. One was holding something silver on a pillow. They were walking around to every tree and interrupting any duck or swan that was sleeping. While Lillian was looking at the swan with the silver object, a swan showed up at her tree, startling her. “Sorry miss, but I need you to come and have a look at something. Come with me please.” the swan demanded. Lillian followed the rude swan. As she got closer to the silver object, she began to recognize it. “You found my picture!” Lillian shouted as she ran forward and grabbed it. “Excuse me miss, but you can’t take that. The prince is looking for the lady that dropped this and you will have to tell me what was written on the back of the photo in order to poove that it belongs to you. “Well, that’s easy. It says ‘My papa. I wish he were here’” Lillian answered. The swan was impressed.. “yes, that is what it says. How did you know that/” he inquired. “I know that because I wrote it. He’s my papa.” Lillian explained. “Ok then. Miss, I would like you to come with me.” the swan commanded. Lillian followed him to te edge of the lake. “Here is where we fly, follow me and don’t slow down. You might get lost.” the swan said. Lillian nodded and spread her wings, ready to take flight. She let the swan in front of her take flight first and she silently followed behind him. We flew for about an hour when Lillian spotted a huge castle-like shelter. The swan in front of her landed. Lillian followed. In front of the castle-like structure, the prince was waiting anxiously. He was pacing back and forth until he heard the swan in front on Lillian call out. “ Prince, I have found your princess.’ he called. The prince stopped abruptly and looked up. When he saw Lillian his eyes lit up like emeralds. She looked away. Lillian would always be ugly. The spell had worn off. Lillian was ugly once more. The prince ran forward and kissed Lillian. She was so surprised that she just stood there, looking like an idiot. The prince broke the kiss and bent down on one grey knee. “Um...” he started. He didn’t know Lillian’s name yet. Lillian filled in for him. “Lillian.” “Beautiful name. Lillian, will you marry me?” he questioned as he pulled out a small box with a golden chain and one single huge diamond on it.
Lillian was lost for words. “I um. Yes.” Lillian finally replied. It looked as though this was what the prince had been most hoping for in the world. He stood back up and put the golden chain around Lillian’s graceful neck. She went to look down at it and was shocked. Instead of seeing a dark grey chest, she saw a pure white chest where the diamond was laying. She extended her wing and saw that it was covered with beautiful glossy feathers. The next day there is a beautiful wedding with white flowers falling everywhere like glistening morning flowers loaded with early morning dew. There was beautiful decorations all around. Red banners that said Congratulations! and Welcome the new Princess! in cursive writing. Some were shining like glistening glass. Lillian and the prince ran down the velvety red carpet and into the huge carriage at the end of the carpet. Everyone cheered and the prince and new princess lived happily ever after.
