Hey, I just thought I'd let you all know that Heartland has been made into a television series in Canada set to air on the fall on CBC. There have been quite a few changes made but some of the basic elements of the story have remained the same. Here's a description of the show:
Heartland is a multi-generational family drama series set in the fictional town of Hudson located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. Heartland is a place like no other; a horse ranch with a special mission of healing abused or neglected horses and finding them new homes.
The series follows the Fleming family — Grandpa Jack, teenager Amy and older sister Lou -- as they deal with the ups and downs of running a ranch that’s been in the family for generations but is now so deep in debt they’re one bank payment away from losing it all. After the sudden death of their mother – the girls’ lives change forever. Lou reluctantly returns home from her high-powered job in New York to take over the business of the ranch – this is not what she planned for her life; Amy realizes she has inherited her mother’s special horse whispering gift and is determined to keep her mother’s dream alive by keeping Heartland as a horse rescue center – no matter what Lou wants to do; and Jack – well Jack just wants to keep the two girls from killing each other. Thrown into this mix is Ty, the hunky new stable boy – doing time at Heartland instead of jail; Melanie, the 11-year old kid next door who never goes home – she has a crush on Ty; Scott, the local vet who had a thing for Lou back in high school – maybe he still does; and most importantly Tim, the girls’ estranged father, who has returned to Hudson and wants to reconnect with his family but doesn’t know how. Also a major part of the story is the Grant family, who own a successful ranch next to that of the Flemings. Lilliian, the wealthy widow who has her eye on Jack and on Heartland and her daughter's family which includes her snobbish daughter Marilyn and two grandchildren, sixteen-year-old Ashley and twenty-year-old Jesse.
The series will aim for a balance between drama and humour. For every moment that pulls on your heartstrings there will be an equally laugh-out-loud funny moment.

I'm so glad its not going to be on over here in the UK. Its a disaster!!!!! Ty working there instead of doing jail time??!!?? And its not set in Virginia? Girl neaxt door?!! I would get seriously banned for using the words I want to right now for what they're doing to an awesome series of books!  |

sounds more like an adaptation, shame its not going to be here in the UK. I would have still watched it even if it is messed up. Very messed up  |

Ok, I've calmed down a little from when I made my first post. What they've done is take the base, a horse sanctuary, and the main characters and then decided what they thought would make it interesting to watch. I wish they'd stuck to the books and followed them. I adore Ty's character and I really hate that they're turning him in to the Bad Guy come Good character. Its not who Ty is, and Ty is a major part of Heartland. Its just wrong.

i'm really unhappy with the changes they've made too. why can't they ever stick to the books. they don't even mention soraya or nellie that's the lady jack likes right? well anyways i hate it when they do that grrrrr. |

"Yooh have horses , so are You ritch and posh"
Well if i was ritch i wouldnt be doing my own mucking out.
And just because i have horses dosent mean im posh , it means im privileged to have them.
So as the advert saying goes Yooh dont have to be posh to be Privilaaged
