Hi everyone, I have recently made friends with an epileptic. She has shared a little about it with me. We are becoming better friends every day, so, who knows, she might say more to me. if she brings it up, what should I say? The subject makes me nervous because I don't want to hurt her feelings, and I don't know what comments will or will not hurt her.So, any advice?

I used to have a friend who was epileptic. The best thing you can do is to be honest with her about how much you know about the condition and let her tell you what she wants. Don't be afraid to ask about what to do if she has a seizure when you’re with her, its important that you do know what to do. It may feel uncomfortable for you to ask about it but chances are its common for her to hear the questions and answer them so it’s fairly unlikely that you'll upset her or hurt her feeling by asking or talking about it. Unless you already know someone who has the condition you're unlikely to know much, if anything, about it and she probably understands that. I only knew the very basics of what it was before I was friends with a girl who had it. I hope this helps you.
Deferential, Epilepsy is a condition that causes seizures, if someone has it they are epileptic. The seizures and be in many different forms and different severities. Most people who have the condition are on medication to minimise the amount of seizures they have or at least how serious they are. It can be a very serious condition because if a seizure lasts too long it can cause brain damage, however this is fairly unlikely in people who are on medication for it. Most of the time if someone who is epileptic has a small seizure, it will not be necessary for them to see a doctor.

thanks. she has actually had two at school.Actually, I know some about it.(Guilty, as soon as I heard she had it, i went straight to wikipedia.)

I hope she doesn't get them too often - it must be a bit of a bummer.
I think its better to act natural, like Cem said. A girl in my school has birthmarks and she finds explaining why she has all these red marks is better than leaving people to stop and stare.
She sounds really nice and I hope she gets on well in school.

Yeah. I can't imagine what it's like for her. I'll joke around with her if I think it won't hurt her feelings. I don't about seizures, though.
Yeah, she's great, she leaves me smiling every day.Yeah, she seems to get pestered about it alot...I try not to pester her.
