as soon as she came in the rideing director Ali Carmichael came in and announced that the class was starting and for them to mount up. Dylan (sigh) well i will talk to them after class she thought to her self. but mal beat her to it. hay Dylan Lani,Honey,Annie and i are going to the librarie to see if Caleb has e-mailed me. she said blushed.Dylan smiled at her   as she asked, are we ok? yea she replied, we can all be a hard noses some times.Dylan smiled even wider. thay linked arms as thay walked together to the librarie.

'I was just worried about Minnie. I think shes on heat, shes awful moody at the moment,' mentioned Honey, bracingly.
'You were talking about Min?! I thought you were backstabbing about me!' yelped Dylan,whacking her head with the nearest thing she could find- the computer mouse.
'Hey, hey, hey.' exclaimed Mlory. 'Me and Honey need that.'
'Yes.' agreed Lani solemnly. 'Us singles aren't allowed near hi-tech equipment, you should know, Dyl.' Dylan remembered how she had boasted of her relationship with Henri, who turned out to think she was a bit of a kid. She looked across at Lani.
'Hows it going with Sam, Lan?' she questioned airily.
'What?!' screamed Honey and Lani in unison. Dylan and Malory burst into laughter. Sam was Honey's twin, who had just got into remission from leukemia. He and Lani had hit it off from the start, and they clicked perfectly. It was old news that there was something going on there.
'You know very well what we mean guys,' said Malory, tutting. In one movemen she snatched Honey's Blackberry, clicking it on. She read out endless e-mail from Sam.
'And the semester has only just began. Hes hooked alright !' remarked Dylan knowledgeably. She turned n Honey, giggling. 'Why were you hiding this, Honey?'
'Well I hadn't expected any e-mails so soon. I hadn't checked...I mean now Sams better I can relax a bit more.Hes even stated at St.Kits, and hes managed to find a programme where he can still enter 8th Grade, where he belongs. Theyhave arranged his lessons. Hes such a natural at maths and sports, he'll catch up' Honey replied, still a little shocked.
'Wowee,' screamed Lani. 'Honey said he was better, and that means he must be. She hasn't ever used that word yet!' There was an awkward silence, and for once, it was Lani who wore the blush.

'Shallwe go to town to show Annie around? We could show her all the best coffeee houses, how about Franco's and some ice cream at Romas?' suggested Dylan thoughtfully.
'I can't go,' blurted out Lani automatically. 'I can't go with you.' she corrected herself. 'But have a fun time anyway.'
'How come?' queried an imposig Dylan.
'Well I'm sorta busy. Choosing clothes and I don't want to get in your way. I mean, its Marcia's birthday soon. Guadeloupe's graduating, I can't find time to phone Darcil and. ...'
'Spit it out Hernadez. You are meeting Sam,' shreiked Dylan. Lani nodded foolishly.
'He phoned my mobile this morning.'

Dylan smiled over at her.
"So what did her say, spit it out!" Asked Dylan eargly.

Wellllll said Lani.come on Lani shreiked Mal, Honey and shreiked Dylan. cough it up or i will tickle it out of you. ok ok ok i will tell you jest no tickleing pleas.

She took a deep breath and began.
'Honey. Sam's been helping me out. Ifeel kinda left out at home at the moment, you see, Maricia just got engaged. I don't mean to be selfish, but everyone is so wrapped up in plans. I felt a bit left out, and I felt like a laugh. I e-mailed you brother, Honey and soon we got talking,' confessed Lani, half-smiling. 'do you mind?' she questioned almost shyly to Honey. Lani was being shy !!
Honey gulped. 'Not in the slightest.' She began to smile broadly. 'I knew something had happened. He was talking about your jokes nearly eery mealtime.' Lani cringed.
'Well, you know how it is, being the Queen of Comedy and all that.' Lani said, nodding appreciatively. 'ook, I'll show you the e-mail.As I say, ts nothing big.' Dylan pretended to slap her.
'Yes it is !,' she yelped, mock-angrily. 'We were supposed to be in the single gals club !' She laughed at Lani's bewildered face. 'You know I'm joking, Lani!'.
Lani tapped in her password on the Blackberry. The message shot up.

Hey Lani ! How are you ? Look, you want to meet up this week-end. If you don't mind, I'd rather we were...alone. Is that ok? I mean, I don't want to steal you from your friends, but it would be grrrrrrreat to have a really good mate. I mean, I'm new, you could show me around, I mean, if you want. So if its ok, give me a ring. And if it isn't dn't worry. I mean, call me. Yeah, I'll explain on the phone. I mean, if you want to.

Dylan burst into laughter. 'Hes not too god with his words,but its clear to seethat hes all over you. Sweet.' Said a grinning Dylan. So what did he say on the phone.
'I still need to ring him,'replied Lani.
'Go on then !' they all screamed in unison. Honey winked at Lani. Lani smiled andwalked off, dialling his number.

Dylan, Malory and Honey looked eargly at Lani, who began to tell them.
"Well, he said in the email he really likes me and was wondering if you could got out to town to a cafe some where. The cafe's called Super Suprise something like that" Said Lani smiling, all three girls stared at her Honey's mouth dropped open.
"So, lets get you ready for your first date!" Laughed Dylan getting up, Lani looked at then worriedly.
"Come On we're all great at hair, makeup and designs codes around here we'll help you choses what to wear" Said Honey happily getting Lani to her feet, Malory opened the door as Dylan and Honey pulled Lani out the room to her room. Malory got her make up and some of Lani's make up out onto a dressing table preparing them for Lani while Honey and Dylan helped her choses what to wear. Lani grabbed a few clothes out lying them on her bed.
"Right, lets see what we've got here then" Said Dylan, picking up black leggings, mini jeans skirt and a white strape top with a pick cargegaine.
"Lovely!" Shrieked Honey as Dylan picked the stuff she a chosen up, Lani smiled.
"First lets fix your hair and make up!" Called Malory pulling a chair upto the dressing table.
"Honey will do your hair, then I'll do your make up, take a seat" Said Malory excitedly, as Lani sat down Honey picked a brush, brushing Lani's hair then straightening her hair. Malory began applying make up after the hair was do then for the outfit Dylan had chosen for her. Malory, Honey and Dylan waited for Lani to come out the bathroom.

Lani walked into the bathroom full of apprehendsion. She knew what Sam was like, a joker. What happens if he was joking, maybe she was trying to hard. She stared into the mirror. She had to admit, her friends had made her look totally chic. Dylan had drawn love hearts all over the mirro, with S.H for L.H written all over them. Se gulped and rubbed them off, smiling.

She loaded the  school bus in a rabble of friends. Honey smiled at her convincingly, and Malory gave her a bit of advice.
'Just keep calm,' Dylan mimicked. Like Lani, Dylan was not one for nerves. Lani knew she just had tobe herself. But what happens if... She sighed. Samhad liked her as she naturally was. 'Buckly up, Cowgirl!' she muttered under her breath.
'Pardon ?' said Honey sweetly.
'I was just wondering if this bus was ever gonna start.' replied Lani.
'Scared, are ya, Hernadez,' queried Dylan jokingly.
'Not half as much as you will be when I shutyour head in this dor.' yelped Lani loudly. Dylan scapered to her seat by Annie. 'Good,' thought Lani erflectedly.They were bonding.

Lani didn't want to be super early to the coffee hous, that would just look lame. The St.Kits boys were just ariing, she spotted the plum-coloured minibus.Chestnut Hill's was gold and dark green. They got off the coach and signed the register. They began to point out the main places in Cheney Falls to Annie.
'And this is where Malory first met Caleb after their Summer together,' piped up Dyaln. Everyone laughed and Malory shook her head, blushing.
'Anyway,' she started. 'Its Lani's big day.' Lani turned away. What was up with her ? She had never been like this before ? It was the days when they had dates that she most enjoyed. She sighed.
'Look I gotta go.' she said bracingly. 'Don't go following me around, ok ?'

She opened thedoor tothe coffee shop and the bell sounded. Frost was building up on the steamy windows, and a few seatswere occupied. Sam walked in.
'Hey Lani,' he said nervously, behind his floppy fringe. 'I'm starving,' he added smilingly.
'Make that too.' commented Lani hungrily. She staredinto his brown eyes, very like Honey's. They smiled and took their seats.

"So hows life been at ST.kits?" Asked Lani smiling.

It's Ok. replied Sam. "Is everything alright?" Lani asked Yeah, why wouldn't it be. I  mean your here." They both blushed. Get a grip Hernandez. Lani thought to herself.

"Alright" cried Dylan as soon as Lani got on the Bus."Spill. We want a full report Hernandez." "How did it go?"asked Honey. Lani bit her lip. "Is everything O.K.?" Malory asked looking concered. "Yeah, We're going to meet up next weekend. but..." "But what?" questioned Honey. Lani looked down at the floor. She didn't want to tell Honey in case she worried. "I think Sam's getting bullied at Saint Kits. Not physically" Lani said quickly as she saw the shock and then anger on Honey's face.

Honey gawped. Malory's hand threw itself to her mouth, Dylan stopped clapping with excitement. Annie looked at little conofused and shocked.
'I mean its nothing big,' added Lani. 'I mean, once the others get to know him, it'll be fine. Him being as he is. The disease is nothing to him, really. I mean, its all in the past, he has got heaps better.' she said positively. Honey bit her lip.
'Lani,' I know it was, well, private in the coffee house,' Mlory spoke for Honey. 'But please tell her whats going on, she has to know.' Dylan nodded seriously.
'It would be great for Honey to know how her brother is getting along.'

"He told me not to tell a specially not Honey he didn't want me to upset you if I told you" Said Lani bitting her lip tears gleaming in her eyes, Honey felt the same way her face clour faded.
"Just tell me what he said!" Swollowed Honey quietly, Lani took a deep breathe.
"There this  gay of boys they call themself the rulers of the school, one time they started beating him up and picking on him, Sam said he might leave if things dont change!" golped Lani wiping away her tears.

"Hey don't worry." said Annie looking over from trying to comfort Honey. "He's being bullied and it's my fault. I was the one who helped persuade Mum and Dad to let him go to Saint Kits, and you want me to stop worrying. He's just got over Lukemia", snapped Honey. "I'm sorry" said Annie looking hurt. "It's not your fault you didn't know." sniffled Honey. 
"Look, you guys can we wait until we get back. People are starting to look at us funnily."Dylan whispered. "If it helps you two I'll get my eyes and ears inside Saint Kits to look after him. You know to stop the idiots who are bulying Sam." Annie looked puzzled. "She means here cousin." Malory told Annie. "Oh thats a great idea. I'll get my brother to do the same thing. "Really?" asked Lani looking hopeful. "Sure." smiled Annie.

"So you'll do it?" Annie asked into the phone. She was talking to her brother while four girls looked at her anxiously. "Thats great," cried Annie giving them a thumbs up. Dylan had already confirmed it with her cousin, Nat but it would be even better if there were the two of them.
"Well he said Yes," Annie said after hanging up the phone.

They slapped together igh fives. Malory looked amused.
'You two are sure making good friends,' she mentioned airily.
'And don't we just know it,' laughed Annie.
'As if we EVER didn't get on. Partners in Crime.'giggled Dylan. Lani's stomach lurched. It used to be her and Dylan who took the jokes. She knew it was kinda selfish, but she couldn't help feeling a bit left out. 'Snap out of it, Hernadez' she mumbled to herself. She t5ried to shake herself into thinking about her priorities - Sam.
'So have we gotta plan, or have we gotta plan?' she asked enthusiastically.
Malory grinned. 'I'm gonna try and wing Claeb into it.' she added thoughtfully. 'Honey could put Josh onto it...' Dylan nodded, smiling at Lani and Honey. Lani didn't smile back.
'Won't he be a bi suspisious, I mean, Sam will float through. He'llbe o.k. What will the other guys think if he has to have us helping him. Surely that won't be too good, from his part.' She muttered quickly. Dylan stopped in her tracks.
'Dnot you ant to help him.' Lani couldn't even intercept. 'Surely you do. Or do you want him all to yourself ?' Lani was amazed. Malory shot her a warning look. 'Let her calm down, shes been upset alot lately. She thinks you are going to change when you o out with Sam. She feels put out.' Lani gulped. She could barely muster a little 'Oh'.

"Come On, we all need to relax now and I mean it no worrying!" Said Dylan firmly then gave a cheeky smile.

Lani agreed. 'So we are back on track.' she said, almost testily.
'f ya say so,' nodded Annie.
