Maybe others might not, but personally I would find it interesting and useful if we had some tips here for anyone and from anyone about horsecare, riding, training, shows and the like. I want to do more shows but I don't know how to progress and maybe others have problems, so we could d an agony aunt thing, maybe?

okay. showgrl to the rescue! dun dah dah DAHH!!!! (my theme music) lol I show enough so ill give u show tips. Ill give u more in the future, but today, im gonna focus on the first aspect of ur horse's showing: apperence/look.

Apperence:
Mane: Make sure ur horse's mane is plaited cleanly. no stray hairs! Wrap it in tape (showing tape) if u need to. NOT Scotch tape! lol.
Body: ALL of the marking must be off of your horse's coat. unless they have a clip. no dust is allowed! If ur horse has dandruff on their chest, use a special shampoo the night beofre a show wen u give them a bath to wash it off.
Face: wipe away all of the dirt and debree from their nose, mouth, eyes.
Hooves: Hooves must be trimmed and polished. Also, they need to be picked out.
Tail: Should be braided and wrapped (unless u r in dressage)
Neck: Get all of the dust, gathered up from under horse's mane thats hiding it, when u give them a bath and groom it properly with the long haired brush because the neck is a sensitive area!
Limbs: Also use the soft brush b/c the limbs are the most important part, and also the part most likely to break!

If im mising n e thing, be glad to tell me. Ill give u more tips next time! Don't forget to be thankful!!! lol.

ok thanks. well like if the horse bucked or reared what actions would you take to stay on or make them stop bucking or rearing. have any good tips on how to keep the horse next to the fence or to strengthen ones legs so the horse can feel you?

Wow that is great showgrl! I know that everyone here is horsey-mad, but I am sure people like you, kate, horsez101 and more can give extra showing tips! The Appearance stuff will be extra handy for my horse, because he is an extreme rolling freak (I like to call it a ERF!). Grin

Molly too is a ERF

Well she basically a hoover as well , she eats LOADS

Okay well my tips are :

Sit straight in the saddle
Straight back
Elbow bend
Heels down
And a good contact

Yarr , i no they are the basics but they are VERY important for progressing

So, to answer your bucking problem, deferential, i'll tell you this:

BUCKING101:
Brace your arms against your body, but meanwhile keeping them relaxed and a steady contact with your horse's mouth. While doing this, lean back and command your horse to go forward. He can't do anything unless all four feet are on the ground, so walking him out keeps his mind and feet off of bucking. During that spilt second that his back feet are on the ground to get more momentum to buck, tap him (with your crop or boot) with firm pressure right behind the girth and turn him in a circle. If he won't listen, tap again, and continue that. You can also try making him walk backwards, but only use this as a very, very last resort! IMPORTANT: DO NOT!!!! I repeat DO NOT even consider jumping off!!!! You will get killed or trampled, or something not good!!! While your horse is bucking, also squeeze with uour thighs, but that's a given.

DON"T JUMP OFF!!!!

hope these help, and ill post the rearing next.

okay. i take back the one about walking ur horse backwards.

IT SHOULD ONLY BE A VERY LAST RESORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

k?

CUZ ONLY WITH SPECIAL, RARE HORSES, DOES THAT HELP. It will bring his hind legs down so u can turn him around, but it will/mite also encourage rearing WHICH IS WORSE (or at least from my prospective. )

I will post rearing now.

Oaky, if your horse rears, well, bluntly put... IT'S MONDO SUPER GINORMOUSLY scary.

lol.

Here are some tips to stop your horse (well, at least keep him) from rearing

REARING101:
Protect yourself when a horse rears with you is to lean forward
immediately and put your hands forward so you have loose reins.
If you have to, you could even put your arms around his neck, let
go of the reins and slide off. But, I fately don't advise that if it is constant up-and-down wavering rears, not just one where he rears up until he loses balence. If your horse rears while you are walking him, do not pull on the lead rope for this will cause him them to 1) retaliate or 2) cause injury. If you know the horse is going to rear by all means turn in a tight circle and use the inside leg to press forward. I suggest this the most. Also you can do this when the horse's feet are back on the ground to cause him to lose his balence (no, not the kind where he falls over!) or, also while in the air, but this is the rearing last resort, because he could lose his balence (the fall over kind) and dangerously hurt you or him! I said it was okay to jump off, b/c this isn't where he goes up and down, up and down continuously like bucking. But, the second last resort, k?

I hope that these will help, tell me if they do, not that i don't hv faith in them and all.
