I think that the first 20 books and the first special edition (A Holiday Memory/Winter Memory) are great. Very good horse/human balance and tough subjects are handled well. And the horse problems are realistic, believable problems with realistic solutions. And I love the idea for them from the start, the natural methods and such.

However, I do think the new books, special editions 2-4, Beyond the Horizon, A Winters Gift and A Summer to Remember are rubbish. Not believeable from the characters originally created. And none of the horse problems are handled as well. There is much less emphisis on the horses and in BtH in particular the horse problems are ridiculous and totally unbelievable.

In my opinion. Not wanting to turn this thread in to (yet another) debate about what the new books are like. But thats my opinion on the series. I can't say I love them all cause I don't. But the first 21 books I adore!
